: I HAVE A HYDRAULIC CAM AND LIFTERS.

this is a subject i have much experience with as i have been a chevrolet master and
ASE master technician for 14 years. the chevrolet service manual states " one turn
past zero lash, for hydraulic tappets ". this also apples to a 'roller' tappet. to obtain
zero lash, first the tappet must be on the base circle of the camshaft lobe. while
turning the push rod with your finger and thumb, tighten the rocker arm nut until the
push rod cannot be (gently) turned . then continue to tighten the nut one complete
turn, and the valve is adjusted properly according to the book. now, it has been my
experience after several years of turning wrenches professionally, that one complete
turn is usually too tight and will cause an engine misfire. i have always gone 3/4 turn
and have NEVER had a problem. i hope this helps.
